𝒬 39. Why was it requisite that the Mediator should be man?

𝒜. It was requisite that the Mediator should be man, that he might advance our nature,1 perform obedience to the law,2 suffer and make intercession for us in our nature,3 have a fellow feeling of our infirmities;4 that we might receive the adoption of sons,5 and have comfort and access with boldness unto the throne of grace.6

  1. Hebrews 2:16

    by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. (ESV)

    “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

    For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. (ESV)

  5. Galatians 4:5

    to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. (ESV)

  6. Hebrews 4:16

    Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (ESV)
