Shorter Catechism

Q 2. What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him?

A. The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments,1 is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him.2

Q 3. What is the Word of God?

A. The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the Word of God,3 the only rule of faith and obedience.4


  1. Matthew 19:4-5

    He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?

  2. Deuteronomy 4:2

    You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you.
